Description
After struggling with dry, chapped hands for years, I finally happened upon a homemade remedy that is heavenly. I love that it’s easy to make, you can customize the scent and it’s all natural. I don’t give exact measurements here, as you can make as much or as little of this as you like.
Ingredients
- About 1/4 to 1/2 cup pure shea butter*, depending on how much you want to make
- Pure essential oil of choice, such as lavender or lemon or grapefruit
- A few drops of vitamin E oil, optional (but this acts as a natural preservative)
Instructions
- In a microwave-safe glass measuring cup or canning jar, scoop shea butter. Heat for a minute or two on high power, until the shea butter is melted. It may take a little longer or shorter, depending on the power of your microwave.
- Using a dropper, add in the essential oil a drop at a time, until you are happy with the level of fragrance. Some people prefer a little more and some a little less. Add in a couple of drops of vitamin E oil, if using, and stir until mixed.
- Pour the mixture into a jar or container of choice. Let cool and refrigerate for 12 to 24 hours, or until firm.
- Use the shea butter for dry chapped hands, feet and lips. I have even used it on a chapped nose when I had a bad cold, and it softened my skin right up.
