I was recently asked if I would be interested in reviewing The Complete Guide To Vegan Food Substitutions by Celine Steen & Joni Marie Newman. I was super-excited to be asked, because not only do I adore both of the authors, but the book is adorable too!
I was immediately taken with just how much useful vegan sub information is in the book. It would be perfect for anyone, from those new to veganism to the well-seasoned ones. There’s so much information packed into these pages, from all of the delicious recipes to the tons of awesome information on substituting dairy, cheese, eggs, meat, honey, eggs and gelatin. You’ll even find healthy substitutions for replacing ingredients like gluten, sugar and fat.
The way that the book is written, you can easily look up whatever ingredient you want to sub-out and Celine and Joni guide you effortlessly through, explaining which substitution is best. The design makes it super easy to use and flip through the book, with color coded sections, great little side bars, and beautiful photographs.
I cooked up a couple of recipes from the book, which were both fantastic. In fact my daughter was home for the weekend from college, and she flipped for the food as well. I made the French Onion Soup and the Cocoa Bars. Everything was immediately devoured.
The recipes are not only creative, but easy to follow and well written. I highly recommend this book!
